Red Bank Bike &and Ped

Red Bank, NJ is a vibrant town known for its lively community and diverse population. However, as with many urban areas, the infrastructure supporting pedestrians, cyclists, and wheelchair users requires attention, if it exists at all.

To ensure the safety and accessibility of the community, we need to campaign for safe roads and resilient infrastructure help build a more resilient and equitable place for us all to live.

Current Challenge

Despite the town's "cool" rating, there are many challenges faced by those who walk, cycle, or use wheelchairs:

  • Dangerous Sidewalks: Sidewalks are narrow, uneven, or lack proper ramps, making navigation difficult for wheelchair users and pedestrians.

  • Limited Bicycle Lanes: Cyclists often find themselves "sharing" the road with motor vehicles, posing significant safety issues.

  • Traffic Lights: Are for the convenience of cars. Traffic lights should detect pedestrians and cyclists and adapt their sequence accordingly.

  • Poor Lighting: Inadequate street lighting increases the risk of crashes, especially during nighttime.

  • Traffic Congestion: High volumes of traffic create dangerous conditions for non-motorized road users.

  • Maintenance Issues: Potholes and other road damage are hazardous, particularly for wheelchairs and bicycles.

Working towards...

  • Improving Sidewalk Accessibility: Ensuring all sidewalks are wide enough to accommodate wheelchairs, have smooth surfaces, and are equipped with proper ramps and tactile paving.

  • Expanding Bicycle Infrastructure: Creating dedicated and protected bicycle lanes that are clearly marked, physically separated and maintained.

  • Enhancing Street Lighting: Installing greener and more appropriate lighting in poorly lit areas to increase visibility, safety and security during nighttime.

  • Reducing Traffic Congestion: Implementing measures such as traffic calming zones and pedestrian-friendly traffic signals to improve safety.

  • Regular Road Maintenance: Establishing a routine maintenance schedule to address road damage promptly and effectively.

A campaign for safe roads and resilient infrastructure in Red Bank, NJ is not just about improving physical spaces; it is about enhancing the quality of life for all residents.

By addressing the current challenges and working towards safer and more equitable streets, the town can ensure that everyone, including pedestrians, cyclists, and wheelchair users, can navigate the streets safely and comfortably. Community involvement is the key to driving this initiative forward, creating a safer, more inclusive Red Bank for all.
